I’m just here to like your posts when you have something sensible or nice to say
The Volt was better than that, the engine could engage directly to drive the wheels.

The GM patents can be read on the net to understand all the modes of operation.

You can also read about Chinese Jaecoo PHEVs and explain to me the differences

The Toyota Prius is definitely not a serial hybrid
December 21, 2025 at 9:35 PM
The Prius has a plug in version too.
Both the Prius and Volt achieved cvt transmission using a torque splitter and without unreliable belt roller design.

Chinese PHEVs now arriving in Europe, when you look at the engineering in them have a lot in common with Chevrolet Volt. I’m surprised they get away with it? maybe I’m missing some fundamental differences that make them different from Chevy designs?

A good car
December 21, 2025 at 9:20 PM
The 2nd generation never came to uk maybe not to Europe I’d have to check. Hybrids can be overly complicated, unreliable or in case of Toyota Prius engineered to not stress engine or battery. Chevrolet/Daewoo had poor reliability & European motoring press thought same of volt but it was like Prius-

Ford commercial vehicles are very profitable in Europe (Germany, UK etc) unlike Ford cars but there’s hope for car business, biggest problem is American ownership which is seen as toxic in Denmark, Germany & increasingly elsewhere

Shows I don’t know what happens in Korea, not living there.
Chevrolets in Europe were mostly terrible with rebadged old Daewoo models and some hideous styling. Volt was with hindsight good although at time brand wasn’t trusted.
GM presence in Europe was mostly Opel.
December 21, 2025 at 9:05 PM
Yes Opel in Europe survived GM ownership unlike Daewoo in South Korea.
December 21, 2025 at 8:50 PM
Anyway I think we both plugged Ford vans enough. GM left Europe but the European brand Opel still remained just under different ownership. Ford remain mainly due to van business, if Ford were to leave Europe it would be an odd decision to close down rather than sell.
December 21, 2025 at 8:42 PM
What puzzles me is why you are pushing a narrative that Ford vans sell well Germany but ignore all the other countries
December 21, 2025 at 8:26 PM
Shows how little we both know, Ford Transit also sold in USA
December 21, 2025 at 8:22 PM
Ford have more of van market in UK than Germany & have had best selling van in UK for over half a century. As I said they are best selling vans in most of Western Europe.
If Ford wanted to pull out of Europe they could sell the European business, sales might improve without American ownership?
December 21, 2025 at 8:18 PM
That sounds a bit extreme? Have you got evidence to back that up?

Yes with cars.
As for vans I’m pretty sure Ford have two European van platforms that are not shared with other manufacturers.

I don’t really understand why the European Ford Transit platform is not also available in the States?
December 21, 2025 at 7:41 PM
Yes UK , Germany, France , Italy, … market leaders in maybe a dozen countries
December 21, 2025 at 7:34 PM
Ford F-150 lightning.
I kind of imagine the market research before development was conducted in a Southern Californian vineyard.
The problem being there aren’t many people who own Californian vineyards although there may be millions who dream of such a life.

Fords strategy in Europe has moved to building Ford versions of other companies vehicles. After all Hyundai and many of the Chinese manufacturers did that for years & it did them no harm.
Ford vans still sell well across Western Europe not just Germany, they are still no one in vans & will invest.
December 21, 2025 at 7:22 PM
Ford’s van business is still doing very well in Europe but as for cars, the Ford Puma is very popular in UK but other than that they’ve practically given up on the car business. The factory in Germany I understand is building Ford versions of vws and now Renaults

The Lightning is an oddball.
It only makes sense for someone with home solar who needs to carry stuff about and even then not far. Good for farmers and a few other special cases. Shockingly bad for general transport
