Game designer that probably made some games you played as a kid, dog lover and a dad. Views expressed here are my own.

Unhappy with every deck box, I decided to design my own. I had a few criteria:
- No tuck.
- No hook.
- No inner flaps that catch the cards when you slide them in.
- Durable; no pieces that easily tear.
I'm extremely happy with it. PNP only, for now.
#Crownfell is coming to PNP Arcade this Friday!

Opened the back door to let Bella out, skunk stares back at me. I stare at the skunk. Bella runs past barking looking for it. Skunk runs other way. I get Bella in. Skunk looks back, smiles, and sprays as the door was shutting.
We won't be going outside again tonight.

Just went through an active shooter lockdown during class. All safe. Students were great. But …. lots of thoughts on state of things. Going to have a whiskey now.

When lobbies and donors are bigger voices in our representatives minds, which it appears to be, then we are no longer “Of the People, By the People, For the People”. Lincoln said that in his Gettysburg address to remind us all about the importance of a fair democracy. What we have? It’s not that.

I have never made SO MANY slides for a class before... but this is the cool part of a chess engine, using bits to do MAGIC.

I don’t like this timeline much. I mean, sure, there’s stuff to like like coffee and dogs. But then the current state of burning down civilization just to hurt yur neighbors beliefs, accomplishments and status? This is not what I want to live in. I think there’s a whole commandment on this somewhere

"Game designers will routinely fail at making something fun. When the game of making games is played right, it is always right outside the edge of what the designers know how to do."
Incredible quote from an amazing article. Something I'm only beginning to understand 10+ years in to designing.

Game design is simple, actually. Except when it isn't. Here are the 12 things you need to know.
Game design is simple, actually
So, let’s just walk through the whole thing, end to end. Here’s a twelve-step program for understanding game design. One: Fun There are a lot of things people call “fun.” But most of them are not useful for getting better at making games, which is usually why people read articles like this. The fun of a bit of confetti exploding in front of you, and the fun of excruciating pain and risk to life and limb as you free climb a cliff are just not usefully paired together.

Bitboard template class in C++ my students asked why I pass the lamda function as the template. Because I am lazy and like having the compiler go work all of that out. Implicit conversion is actually useful sometimes.

In class tonight I covered pawn movement via bit boards for chess AI live coding and it worked.. first try. Highly dubious students. Highly dubious lecturer.
Aside, this fall teaching schedule is exhausting. I will be in a coma the week of thanksgiving. Literally. I'm planning it. Coma.

I have a new life goal to make notes this wonderful.
I feel like I need to split up my blackboard scribbles/notes for #half-edge into multiple files bc it's quite a lot to deal with an 8000x14000 px document lol

If nothing else, a high-quality, full-featured competitor to Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign that is completely free is *definitely* going to be bad for Adobe.
I'm a big Affinity fan, and I'm glad the AI features are the only thing behind a subscription paywall. This will shake things up.

The dreaded announcement has finally come out!
TLDR; #Affinity is free now. 1 singular app. Features seem to be at parity with v2. There is canva ai, but it can be hidden/isn't completely coating everything (yet).
What do you think about this announcement? Relieved? Upset?

I love WoW, but I wish I played the picture in the header of this article (below from an excellent @wowhead.com article) and not the mess that the game is when you actually boot it (pictured in the article). The game, imo, loses all immersion when it's more UI than immersive environment.
With Blizzard's new philosophy regarding combat add-ons in the upcoming Midnight expansion, players are beginning to wonder: could this affect Classic as well?
