Wings snapping off would only happen if the airplane mechanics suddenly got really really bad at their job and I know that every plane is a wife to those guys so that's not in danger of happening.

Imagine the plane is in jello. The jello shaking is what turbulence is. The plane is still where it is in the jello and is in no danger of falling, it's just shaking. Very good visual aid for how turbulence manifests.
