My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

it's sarcasm for the future of respected journalism. along with registering my frustration with the "AI revolution". nobody asked for this and yet it's ridiculousness keeps intruding upon our lives. (also, wasn't a paper caught earlier this year attaching a real byline to an AI-generated story?)

just stop, please. i admire AOC & her comms chops, but POTUS is not an on-the-job-training position. This country is OBSESSED with youth candidates, but we will need a seasoned person to govern us when the trump misery is over. institutional rebuilding—both to agencies & to foreign relations.

there's a handful of books about kids solving mysteries around the UofC area of Chicago written by Blue Balliett: Chasing Veermer, The Wright 3 and The Calder Game. They're really wonderful and the use of Chicago as a backdrop to many of their adventures is a delight.

My statement on the funding deal to reopen government, protect federal employees, and vote to protect health care:
"I have long said that to earn my vote, we need to be on a path toward fixing Republicans’ health care mess and to protect the federal workforce. This deal guarantees a vote to extend Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, which Republicans weren’t willing to do. Lawmakers know their constituents expect them to vote for it, and if they don’t, they could very well be replaced at the ballot box by someone who will. This legislation will protect federal workers from baseless firings, reinstate those who have been wrongfully terminated during the shutdown, and ensure federal workers receive back pay, as required by a law I got passed in 2019. That’s a critical step that will help federal employees and all Americans who rely on government services. I’ll keep working towards a long-term government spending plan that includes critical priorities to support Virginians and funding for Virginia community projects."

The only reason Republicans have dragged this shutdown on for so long is simply because Republicans don’t want to lower healthcare costs.

They are happy to let 24 million Americans see their premiums DOUBLE on average.

She says it’s the only way to compete for a gerrymandered seat whose boundaries were drawn to heavily favor Republicans.
This North Carolina Democrat can’t win her district. So she’s running as a Republican.
