With my new desk, I’m able to hook up my work computer when I work from home. Just need my new computer chair to arrive for it to be fully comfortable.

Unseen consequence: discord pings from my home PC still plays through the speakers, so I keep getting distracted.

I think I mentioned it before, but a full book of a flashback sequence is certainly a choice. Giving it another go now that audiobook is out.

Book 6 of A Practical Guide to Sorcery.

I think the author just really wanted to use that word:

“Then he defenestrated himself and she exited through the door.”

It’s probably because it’s 5am here, and I’m still awake. But I found this book quote recommendation pretty funny. “It’s good.“ ~some guy on the internet.

Randomly almost typed a password I used 25 years ago, for EverQuest, to log into my work machine. Guess I want vacation to start early…

I am surprised that the “no seatbelt” alarm goes off even when in reverse. I’d figure it’d be temporarily disabled to allow for greater concentration.

Reading a book series that just has two books published…but has 3 more written on Royal Road. Do I go crazy and binge them like I normally do and then feel bad when I’m caught up and have to wait each week for new chapters? Or hold out for published books?

Book is One Flew Over the Dragon’s Nest.

Just finished up book 5 of Quest Academy and I just have one spoilery question: is something going to happen to a specific character, or is “nothing” going to happen yet again?

Turns out migrating applications to a brand new server brings to light a lot of previous assumptions that were made of “that dependency was already there due to some other program needing it”. And now we need to figure out the correct way to install the dependencies.

Ugh, this series I’ve been reading on RR finally got an audiobook, but it’s a narrator that “ruined” another beloved series. I am not optimistic. (Related: Primal Wizardry almost used the same narrator, and I definitely gave feedback against it.) This narrator does not do female voices well, imo.

Oh hey, just found out I was given a call out in the Primal Wizardry author’s note. While I didn’t do well as an official Beta reader, I was active in the comments on Royal Road when it was being posted. If you like D&D style magic and time loops, give Dear Spellbook (the original series) a try.

I actually tried to got to bed at a reasonable time tonight, but I’m still up now because of random pressure / pain above my eye. As always, seems to flare up when I try to sleep.

Come on Apple Car Play…who thought it was a good idea to turn the “Done” button into a “Call” button when reading texts, even before the text is finished?

Listen, I understand you’re from out of state, but if you’re in the wrong lane at the intersection and it’s the 4th cycle with 10 people behind you…you gotta do something. Just take the turn and figure it out later.

Bonus absolutely no twitching on honks from cycle 3 on...

Kind of disappointed in the next book of a series that appears to be all flashback. I believe the in world explanation is that the MC cast a spell to unlock memories that have been hidden…but it’s annoying as a reader to have such a big chunk of flashback all at once.

At work just now, as I took my headphones off and put them back in the case, my audiobook started playing out my phone speaker. By the time I got to the controls to pause, it perfectly said the full line:

“They weren’t going to see the next sunrise.”

I expect a call from HR at any time now.

Listen. Our government needs to get their shit together. There’s three different field lengths for dates on this Passport application.

One has 9 spaces, not enough to include slashes.
One has 2 2 4 spaces, which is perfect.
One has 13 spaces, which has room for slashes and still 3 extra.

Fun fact: my work computer will spontaneously shut down if it gets too hot. Like if I’m in a meeting on my deck with the sun shining directly on it. That is better than “spontaneously” combusting I suppose.

Hmm, it’s 10:30PM. Should I start in on book 3 of this series, or go to sleep? Of course I’ll do the reasonable and sane thing: Binge as much of Book 3 as I can and end up staying up way too late (2AM+) and be tired at work. As per usual.

The Years of the Apocolypse on Royal Road.

Ugh, hit a “the MC has been captured” arc and it’s killed my reading motivation. Very tempted to listen to it on 1.5 speed just to get through the few chapters he “captured”.
August 8, 2025 at 1:11 AM
Ugh. Reading a book and can see the trajectory of the current arc and it’s just drained my interest in continuing. Mainly because it feels really drawn out. Might up it to 1.2x or 1.5x, but at that point it’s just a chore…

Oof. 12+ chapters of “leveling up” is a bit rough. Even if we’re also seeing some flashbacks giving context to events as part of it.

Switched out another pair of switches, and it only took me 1.5hrs… (that’s sarcasm, btw). The issue was that the double switch wires are not the colors I expected, and the switch that was in there was “upside down” and I got the sides wrong. Got it working, but need a new faceplate due to new style.
