It's a real gut-punch to scroll down the list attached to this project and realize so many you admired don't actually have a shred of integrity, but nobody is put on this earth to live up to your expectations and it's good to be reminded of that. www.imdb.com/title/tt3239...

On a related note... when I was beta-reading a story set in late 70s/early 80s NYC, I thought verisimilitude was of vital importance, so I did a fuckton of fact-checking! (I mean, the Jenkins school of history is fine when we're putting crocs on C18 pirates, but pre-Giuliani era NYC is in my blood.)

Agreed .. if I had $1 for every post I've read saying how much they enjoyed Samba's performance in the pilot episode of Pluribus, I could subscribe to Apple TV and watch it for myself, and then have enough left over to take the cooking class

and yes I KNOW Merchant of Venice is lousy with anti-semitism but that's kind of the point, and I love seeing how modern productions reinterpret and reframe the stereotypes

A few years ago the Chesapeake Shakespeare Co. did a 70s punk rock take on Titus that was just SO MUCH FUN. Leather and plaid and safety pins and so much bondage gear!

I guess I'm not upset by this, because so much creative media I would like to enjoy is behind paywalls (e.g. Patreon) and so many zines and other goodies are made available only with proof of chartiable donations, and I have accepted that these perks are not within my budget.
