Granted, I'm no Bond scholar, but I always assumed "James Bond" was an alias, not the guy's real name, which is why you could have six different actors play him with zero continuity issues. So it wouldn't matter if he retired or was killed or he just up and quit; they would simply promote the new one from the ranks, give him a license to kill, and send him off on the next assignment. Is this not part of the mythos?

The orchid room at the Rawlings Conservatory in Druid Hill Park is one of my favorite places on earth and it's incredible that I can just go anytime I want!
