this is 100% what's happening, at some point we will receive unambiguous confirmation that it happened, and yet it won't catch on in the public consciousness because it's turd 10 billion of Shit Mountain
You ever wonder if the various scheming viziers around the President are using AI to do “Wag The Dog” for an audience of one?
Trump says this December 26 in an interview with John Catsimatidis that the US destroyed a drug trafficking plant in Venezuela on Christmas Eve.

“They have a big plant. A building from where the boats leave. Two nights ago we hit them hard.”

Things to look forward to in a post-Trump world:
-They will never under any circumstances admit just how badly they fucked up and how much was destroyed
-You will spend the rest of your life waiting for things to go back to normal

I keep catching myself thinking "when this is all over" or imagining some Nuremberg-style reckoning, and part of me realizes I should seriously start to consider the possibility that's never going to happen.

I think we put too much of a taboo on crying wolf and now the wolves are running around openly eating peoples faces and if you point out that's what they're doing they'll accuse you of crying wolf and take that as an excuse to eat your face

A good chunk of both the public and the media have "it can't happen here" as a stuck prior. There's a wall in their brain where they're neurologically blocked from taking it seriously as a possibility.

In Internet political drama, you do actually see both
1) People who don't understand motivated reasoning exists
2) People who don't understand that some people are actually capable of holding and following principles and that *not everything* is motivated reasoning

GOP leaders see themselves as the public's rightful rulers, Dem leaders see themselves as the public's loyal servants

GOP pushes to make the public want what they want, Dems crunch analytics to try to figure out what the public wants

skepticism about the ways in which AI is pushed and the claims made about it as a omnitool is extremely justified; denying that it's a very powerful, remarkable, and *weird* technology at this point is more about a particular type of online affect.

"Bad Thing X is a distraction from Bad Thing Y" rhetoric is dumb because if you ignore Bad Thing X because you think it's a distraction from Bad Thing Y then Bad Thing Y is functioning as a distraction from Bad Thing X

Pretty common for a leftist to say "instead of yelling at cons, we need to address the underlying economic conditions that lead to their reactionary conduct" but it would be somewhat unusual to say "instead of yelling at libs we need to address their underlying economic conditions..."
