Big fan of music, literature, and swimming. Still grappling with whether to use the Oxford comma. Edmonton, Canada.
Took this pic in yeg on the evening of August 8. Stunning cloud formation, IMO.

If you like a good snowstorm in late March, then Edmonton is the place you want to be. About 25 cm in my yard in the last 12 hours.😬

#NowPlaying Anyone else remember this 1986 gem? I’m playing it today for the first time in a while & it still sounds great. Love the vocal performances on this album.

Reviewers can't seem to agree on whether Michael Deagler's "Early Sobrieties" (2024) is a novel or a short story collection, but pretty much everyone agrees it is a fantastic read. Let's call it an episodic novel. When it's funny, it's really funny. When it's sad, it's really sad.

Stephen Markley's monumental 2023 novel, The Deluge, proves more and more prophetic with each passing month. In the novel, LA suffers massive, horrific fires fed by the impact of climate change. And it only gets worse. If leaders read The Deluge, they would start addressing climate change tomorrow.

The debut album by England’s Working Week turns 40 in 2025. This album, including its gorgeous cover, embodies the brilliance of the music coming out of the U.K. in the mid-80s. On this dark December evening, it still sounds as intoxicating as ever.

After decades of procrastination, I am reading Charlotte Bronte's "Vilette". Am about half-way through & enjoying it a lot, despite its occasional oddness. (And I wish my French were better!) Charlotte was so incredibly talented.

I was lucky enough to see the Broadway Across Canada production of Hadestown recently. It was an incredible experience, musically & theatrically. The talent on that stage was off the charts.

10 yrs ago this fall, the Belkin Gallery in #YVR presented "Witnesses", an exhibit of art by residential school survivors, depicting their experiences. Here is one of the exhibit's works, by artist Gina Laing. Also here: the cover of the exhibit booklet. These images continue to haunt.

I'll make my first real post about the novel that is currently blowing me away. It's The Rabbit Hutch by first-time novelist Tess Gunty, who is BRILLIANT, btw. This novel is indescribably smart, complex & compelling.
