If the arc of the universe is supposed to bend towards justice then how come people announce Harris being involved in something as a selling point?

I do not get Erik larson's appeal at all

I raise this to point out that by privatizing it, it forecloses anything except for what OSEG wants, which would be fine if it was their money. It is largely your property tax dollars that pay for this, however. For getting close to 900m$ it could he publicly run and built too.

The financial projections are based on a series of low probability things all working out over 50 years. It will not make any money for the city. Easier to think of lansdowne as a huge subsidy to the 2 developers that make up OSEG. Losing the Charge makes the financial projections even worse.

They explained this at committee but their attendance during weekend games about 8,500, which to them suggested room for growth. Even if you use the median number it gives them almost no room for in person growth.

Even the ad targeting was basically a zero sum arms race with minimal or negative utility for both brands and consumers. We basically constructed a system that was bad for users and bad for buyers but created a simulacrum of consumer rationality that was attractive to executives.

well maybe it destroyed journalism, and education, and massively fueled global fascism and various genocides, and caused an epidemic of loneliness and collapsing birthrates, but at least companies could sell targeted ads

I'm biased here but it strengthens my belief that global scale algorithmic social media is one of the worst inventions in human history. I'd delete it off the face of the earth without a second's hesitation

Yeah, its the same with low density housing. Gets described either as dumb bureaucrats or home buyers preferring larger homes far away, but rarely as a business model for developers of buying dirt cheap land in the middle of nowhere that needs large homes to be attractive to buyers.

It should be illegal to create an acronym that doesn't make something easier to say as a composite word. D E I is not even easier to say than diversity. It's just confusing.

One of the most annoying things I deal with as a professional in the land development business is klein-style bloggers referring to problems with housing prices as "a result of public policy" as if developers dont have lobbysits and city councillors don't influence policy.

In Ontario the policy of suburbanization was called "drive till you qualify", as in, for a mortgage. The idea that people were given an equal choice between smaller urban homes / apartments and larger suburban homes is laughable.

One of his legacies will be privatizing all kinds of healthcare infrastructure to benefit of the ripoff corporation that owns Shoppers' Drug Mart.

I'm sure it alienated anyone who was paying attention but I don't think that many people were following. They tried to frog march a person with a disability out of queen's park! It was disgusting! But I don't think polling or election results ever showed the ndp even in striking distance.

Interesting! Will be good to see Bolduc get more minutes. Maybe Slaf will shoot a bit more with Demidov being such a playmaker.
November 18, 2025 at 12:31 AM
What momentum? I dont think the ndp was ever out polling the pcs, and while I agree that Stiles' treatment of Jama was terrible (as well as the PC censure vote against her), back then I do not think many ontarians were on Jama's side. You don't really hear about anyone saying she was vindicated.
