This is the first holiday I am celebrating without my dad. We used to cook together. Now, it's me cooking and my dad where I cannot ask if I added too much nutmeg. I suppose I can ask, though I doubt I'll get an answer. I want hear him tell me it's "not bad"--the highest of culinary dad praise

Not sure exactly how or when it happened, but somewhere in the last three years or so, I have become acutely aware of birds. Species, migrations, habitats, etc. Birdwatching really did just sneak up me out of nowhere.

TIL that Mr. Peanut has a real name and it's grossly out of character for a legume - Bartholomew Richard Fitzgerald-Smythe. The original drawing by a little kid had a caption of "Mr. P. Nut Planter" and, honestly, they should have run with that instead.

Just talked to someone, who, upon being informed that the neglect of a young child is abuse, said, "Well, that's your opinion."
