The only way to ensure the future of this industry is to train the next generation of developers, and it is super disappointing to see how little leadership groups realize that. Mentoring helps but we need paid work and hands-on experience for juniors, period, full stop.
My skills are growing exponentially because my company took the time to teach and train me as a junior. The fact that this is rare is *so* sad; juniors honing their craft alongside a project’s creation is both crucial to building their skills and making a stronger project
i really hope Expedition 33’s success motivates more studios to take chances on juniors. one of the saddest aspects of the state of the industry at the moment is that opportunities for juniors have all but disappeared. that’s why mentorship and sponsorship matter now more than ever.
