I teach guitar, create YouTube guitar lesson videos, write guitar books, and ride my bike. That's pretty much it.
This 3-Minute Theory lesson shows you how to invert intervals. This lesson builds on the previous interval lessons. If you need to get up to speed on those, you’ll find links to lessons 21-25 in the description.

December is always a light month for teaching income, so I was grateful and pleasantly surprised when my main music engraving client sent a generous holiday bonus today. They didn't know it, but they really helped make up for the income lost from guitar students taking off for the holidays.

RIP salt and vinegar Pringles. I bagged these up to include with my lunch on today's ride, put them in my rear cycling vest pocket so they wouldn't get crunched, immediately forgot about them and sat down to check email before I left. Crunch!

Just taught a young piano student. We usually spend some of our time transcribing short songs that he makes up. I'm gradually showing him how to learn to play what he sings. He told me that he likes his singing voice and thinks it's pretty. I hope he never loses this confidence in his voice.

Tip for beginners: Improve your music reading by getting in the habit of looking in the upper left hand corner before beginning a new piece of music.

Last week I posted the final Rhythm Guitar 3 lesson: a review of all the moveable chords that appear in Rhythm Guitar 3. youtu.be/sgPfYXf1eiI
In January I’ll start uploading lessons from Three-Note Jazz Guitar Chords, which focuses on shell voicings.

I'm not quite right in the head, so I decided to climb up the Paseo de la Mesa trail twice today. It didn't feel great, but my legs felt better than expected. I'm planning on doing this double climb every other week.

Great moments in music education: I just remembered a lesson from a few years ago. I was showing a kid a scale or a fingering or something. He seemed to be engrossed in what I was saying until he blurted out, "My dad has those same socks!"

This 3-Minute Theory lesson (which turned out to be about 4.5 minutes) explains perfect, augmented, and diminished intervals and how you can use the major scale to figure out if a 4th, 5th, or octave is perfect, augmented, or diminished.
