Good progress and encouraging words from Angus Millar

Top of our wishlist for 2024 is for phase 1 of the city network (Govan, Southside and North Glasgow) to kick on in earnest, and for the paused Avenues projects to resume.

Cities like Paris and London are becoming cycling cities, where bikes outnumber cars. It's the future - it moves more people, more cheaply, using less energy. It creates better health and better local economies. Cities like Glasgow have to keep up if we want to prosper.

There's a full map of Glasgow Council 's proposed cycle network here. The numbers indicate the order in which it will be built. What do you think? Will it all happen by 2030? Is your area well-covered?

The incredible finding that 13% of trips on Victoria Road are now by bike proves that huge demand for cycling is supressed only by our dangerous roads. If @GlasgowCC and @AngusCMillar build the full network they've promised, Glasgow will become a city of mass cycling.

🚨The @GlasgowCC Road Safety Roundtable website is live.

✅We need you to vote, make comments, and create proposals!

🚴‍♀️What should be the top priority? 20mph roads? Cycle lanes? Pavement parking.

Let the council know what you think👇

We're quoted here

Campaigners want extra funding for street redesigns — including cycle lanes — to prevent Glasgow “falling further behind” other European cities if soaring construction costs restrict the Avenues programme.

This unacceptable; if cost pressures mean the program cannot be delivered in full, then pedestrian and cycle safety measures must be taken promptly using cheaper methods. The status quo, with its attendant road violence and environmental crises, cannot continue.
