To be clear, with oracy I'd be fine with broad outcomes being specified and autonomy for schools to achieve them. It's an important area. But the oracy tail shouldn't wag the subject pedagogy dog.

My response would have been very cynical and similar to your own had I not been through this so close to home recently.

My wife got diagnosed a few months back, the medication she's been given has literally been life-changing. A colleague of mine has just been diagnosed too, waiting on meds. "wanting to feel better about oneself" is an oversimplification, not necessarily wrong, but a very blazé dismissal.
