Do have a watch in between all the Christmas festivities. It’s a good excuse to avoid the post Xmas dinner washing up . .

I’m looking for new boats to photograph, ideally down the east coast, between say Newcastle and Hull but I could go further south. Boatyards are best, as are small harbours, but anywhere the yachts are lifted out in winter and aren’t locked up behind fences! DM me with ideas please!

We're going to have another bird atlas. This is a job to die for. Not that I mean it would be easy but do it well and your reputation is made.

Very sad to hear of the death of John Blakemore who taught at the University of Derby. I was a science undergraduate there but I spent an inordinate amount of time in the photography department.

This has just been published. It’s a beautiful book and the info in it will certainly help my pan species listing this year. #panspecieslisting #orkneywildlife

Top tip for photographers. When you go somewhere with your big camera and your big lens, ensure you have put the little data cards in your camera. Don’t ask me how I know this! 🤦🏻

The waves this morning were fantastic and with more wind forecast they are going to be brilliant for a while. Birsay, Orkney.

To celebrate the publication of Andrew Duff's final volume of "BBI", Rove Beetles are now a subgroup on Pan-species Listing, for your rankings, targets and blockers. Not the easiest group, but with 1,148 species involved it's a really important one.

Look what the lovely people at Pemberley books sent me? I now have the full set of Beetles of Britain and Ireland. Going to need even more bookshelves soon at this rate! #psl

I'm looking again at using Recorder 6 for bio recording needs. Help needed transferring the entirety of my records from iRecord into Recorder 6. Could probably do with sitting down with someone for a few hours, happy to pay for their time. Ta.

Sunbeams bathing Mainland, Orkney. The weather is a focal point of life here. We’re in the N.Atlantic so it’s usually windy. The weather moves fast and that, coupled with big skies, make this place a photographers dream.
