Transitioning or interested in infosec?

🧵

For folks interested in infosec or transitioning from a non-IT field, here are some suggestions.

There are many other resources out there so I've pulled some together in hopes it can be a starting point for people's learning.
December 2024 of Rust:
- I accomplished what I set out to do to start learning Rust. The holidays took over, being lazy and off work, but squeezing in time was worth the effort.
I just got into a habit of adding more than needed for what I set out to do. The only reason I haven't been posting code

- RAT for win reading c2 ip/port from the registry, which rox creates. Linux RAT reading from .bashrc as non-root and /etc/profile as root.
- I was going to postpone

@unauthorized.computer I think I'm going to try mutt for a month. If it all works out, I'm switching to it. Seems alpine has stopped development.

Day 29 of Rust:
- Code is getting back to normal.
- Going to finish the basic functionality I've been working on and this will become my project to keep working on to keep my Rust skills from getting...oh you know. 😅

It's time. I predict "sophisticated" threat actors will include jazz hands before hitting Enter instead of holding up their pinky.
Is it time for InfoSec predictions yet or are we still focused on eating cheese?

Now I see why rappers are all cut and tip-top shape. Did Karaoke to the Humpty Dance and I was out of breath before I got busy in a burger king bathroom.

When I volunteered at the Library of Congress, I learned that the computer used to regulate the temp within the enclosure that protects one of the original Gutenberg bibles was turned off 2 times, one being December 31, 1999.

Day 28 of Rust:
- Had 2 calm my ambitious & slow down a bit. Plenty of time to do more with BurritoSec c2. I'm really liking Rust (but I won't be writing a Medium article about why I love Rust and never looked back, though I'm way out of line. :)
- Focusing on rox and setting up the RAT.

i gave a presentation on creating an incident response toolkit back in 2019 at Educause. This is my all-time fav feedback from any conference I've presented:

"You were very technical and also very calming; a rare combination."
