Parliament’s conservative negotiator Jessica Polfjard is backing down on patents. ‘The Parliament has decided by a large majority that GMO plants (NGT 1) shouldn’t be patentable. Patents would lead to legal uncertainty, high costs and monopolistic structures and consequently to less seed diversity.’

For the proposed law, no one consulted communities harmed by pesticide spraying, teachers' organisations in schools hit by spraying, those sprayed in their own homes dying of cancer, or scientists who've shown the dramatic impact of the 600 million litres of pesticides applied annually in Argentina.

Very sad news inded. Jane Goodall was in Mexico only a few days ago where she praised Mexico's briliant resistance to #Monsanto and the planting of #GMO corn. She also said of GMOs: "The world will be much better off without them."

An appeal against today's verdict is planned. Meanwhile, Sabine Grataloup with the founder of the Cancer Colère collective, Fleur Breteau, and other parents of children who have been victims of #pesticides, is calling for the phasing out of synthetic pesticides to "put an end to silent poisoning."

Today a French court will announce its verdict in the #glyphosate compensation case: Théo Grataloup vs. BAYER. Théo says, "This fight is not just about me" because he hopes a favourable verdict will help all those who have suffered birth defects as a result of this pesticide.

The paper was crafted by #Monsanto to support claims of the safety of #glyphosate. Despite revelations of its ghostwritten nature, the paper has never been retracted and Oreskes shows it has exerted considerable influence, shaping public understanding, scientific discourse, and policy decisions.

Pesticides can have disturbing behavioural effects even at low concentrations. Behaviour is a blind spot in regulation. Regulatory authorities need to recognise behaviour as a reliable and important indicator that can help them catch pesticide pollution early, before mass deaths occur. #glyphosate
