Cloning Tom Brady’s dog isn’t a “marvel of science”; it is old #BioTech being used in yet another PR stunt by #ColossalBio to grab undeserved headlines… 🐶 🧪 🤷

The #BioTech #ColossalBio is developing will transform healthcare; genetic disease & infertility? Gone. Monetizing tech is the point, not deëxtinction, but that tech begets designer babies (aka eugenics) — this is why critical discussion of their rhetoric matters 🧪 🐋🌱

#ColossalBio “believes it’s safe to assume” I “may have a few enemies.” You don’t make enemies in the back of an ambulance, doing everything you can to help the hurt and comfort the dying; you don't make enemies searching under 30' of pitch black water; I'll never forget some of them 6/n
September 29, 2025 at 5:28 PM
Throughout my academic career, I have only uplifted my colleagues; you don’t make enemies that way either. Mr. Lamm may be a charismatic billionaire, but that doesn't make him a good person, or the #ColossalBio #Deëxtinction #MisInformation real 7/n

In which I proudly stay on my soapbox to counter the #ColossalBio #DisInformation; they made GMO grey wolves, not dire ones whether it was for fun, function, or fiction #ExtinctionReallyIsForever 🐺 🧫 🧬 🧪
What did Colossal Biosciences really create when they said they brought the dire wolf back from extinction, and what are the potential ecological and ethical implications of these creatures getting into the wild?

Dodo De-Extinction Thread 🧵
September 19, 2025 at 1:37 PM
We created a story about what the dodo looked like and how it behaved, and that story wrong was very wrong; which version of the dodo will #ColossalBio model their #Deëxtinction efforts on, v1 or v2‽ What if there is an even more accurate v3? 🦤 🧪

'It's just a weird, weird bird': Why we got the dodo so absurdly wrong
The extinct flightless pigeon has captured imaginations for over 400 years. Experts and artists are now revealing how much we have distorted what the dodo was really like.

Reposting for all the obvious reasons: we live in a zero-sum media landscape, drawing attention to this "pivotal step" in the #deëxtinction of the dodo takes attention away from other infinitely more important things. #ColossalBio is just making deepfake GMO pigeons, not dodos 🦤 🧪
A sad consequence of all this deëxtinction nonsense is that this lovely story about what the dodo really looked like and art and science has to include a discussion of #ColossalBio and deëxtinction 🦤 🧪

@sashagusevposts.bsky.social is much more articulate than me about this; but it is not for nothing we critizie #ColossalBio; sure deëxtinction is a scame meant to garner free press, but the other stuff is far more important, and is mostly ignored by the media 7/n

A few thoughts on Herasight, the new embryo selection company. First, their whitepaper (drive.google.com/file/d/1EpFi...) implies that competitors like Nucleus have been marketing and selling grossly erroneous risk estimates. This is shocking if true! 🧵

Re-upping given the moa deëxtinction nonsense from #ColossalBio and it’s cofounder Ben Lamm, it’s nominally about dire wolf “deëxtinction” but applies just as well to moas

I have learned some pretty funny things about the founder of #colossalbio , the company pretending it brought dire wolves back.

Someone with an interest in the company is harassing Vincent. So let’s see how unserious the founder, Ben Lamm, is.

Without Beth and
without @sunyofficial.bsky.social @albany.edu @UAlbanyBiology I would not be who I am. Thanks to all. I can't prove that #ColossalBio or Ben Lamm gave me this opportunity to remind myself/others of the importance of public education and mentorship, but if they did I thank them!

#ColossalBio shouldn't be blaming the less-than-glowing outcome of their weird (outdated?) PR strategy on researchers merely doing their jobs. Regardless of your personal take, this is a dangerous pattern of behavior 🧪

I’ve asked #ColossalBio many times if they've done environmental impact or ecological modeling studies to determine if rewilding woolly mammoths would have the beneficial environmental effects they claim. It's been in the works since at least 2022 scroll to 27:03.

Putting aside whether 'bringing back the Moa is possible, here is what Colossal Bioscience is saying they will do in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

I would like to see the conservation assessment etc done by independent parties, and for participatory democracy to be built in to decision making.

This is amazing! One DMCA takedown filed against me by www.dailypixels.net/random-pics79 is for a screenshot I took on 3/17/2024 when #ColossalBio, co-founded by Ben Lamm, blocked me over on Twitter. Is this irony or meta‽ 🧪🤣

OK, this one is just straight-up uncanny. The tech bro billionaire in the book Ghost Species (2020) uses the same public facing rhetoric, restoration ecology, as #ColossalBio to justifying the #deëxtinction of thylacines, mammoths, and aurochs 🧪 🦣 🐃
