Parliament’s conservative negotiator Jessica Polfjard is backing down on patents. ‘The Parliament has decided by a large majority that GMO plants (NGT 1) shouldn’t be patentable. Patents would lead to legal uncertainty, high costs and monopolistic structures and consequently to less seed diversity.’

Borlaug stopped crop breeding by the late 1960s and spent the rest of his long life promoting the Green Revolution legend and ridiculing anyone who questioned it or proposed alternatives. Mentions of Borlaug and the Green Revolution surged again from the late 1990s in order to promote #GMO crops.

The classic version of the Green Revolution legend claims the introduction of Norman Borlaug’s wheat seeds produced a bumper crop in India, saving the lives of a billion hungry people. But these claims are false. Food production in India didn’t speed up and zero lives were saved!
