Rock Hudson was born on this day 100 years ago.
He was the epitome of the handsome, seemingly hetero, Hollywood star.
AIDS outed him and killed him.
He died in 1985, aged 59.
His death shocked the world. For many, he was the first person they knew of to die as a result of HIV.

Europe is the only region of the globe that saw more deaths due to HIV in 2022 than it did in 2010.

On August 28, 1971, the historic We Demand Rally took place in Ottawa. Activists and protestors marched on Parliament Hill with a 13-page brief containing a list of 10 demands for federal lawmakers. This would be the first large scale gay rights demonstration in Canada.

On this day, July 3, 1981, the New York Times reported on a "rare cancer seen in 41 homosexuals" in New York and California -- what would eventually become the AIDS crisis.
