Another insight from the data is that the age of the property and the amount of insulation makes very little difference to the performance of the heat pump

This was a stand-out slide, showing a comparison between two identical heat pumps: one running low-and-slow compared to another running at high temperature for short periods.

💡Correct commissioning and control setup is very important

Great stuff! @NewarkCylinders Heat Geek super cylinders are very good, my heatpump with this cylinder is one of the best performing systems on Heatpumpmonitor.org over the last 90 days, the standard Newark cylinders also look good and are very good quality

I've just documented in an
@openenergymon.bsky.social
forum post the various methods to read on-board data from the Grant Aerona HP290 heat pump, the data is not very accurate (ignore COP values 😂), but it's still interesting to log community.openenergymonitor.org/t/reading-on...

I've finally got round to editing a video from our EV camper van trip In January 😅

In this episode, we explore Portugal and experience a very dangerous campsite hookup issue 😬https://youtu.be/n9zQ2Ngftpg

My two favourite things 😀

It's arrived! Thanks to Mars from Renewable Heating Hub for sending over a copy of his new book. It's a fantastic resource for homeowners considering a heatpump, or trying to optimise an existing system. I'm proud to have contributed in a small way 😀

Yes, we can do solar monitoring with our emonpi energy monitor with clip on CT's docs.openenergymonitor.org/applications...

There's not many 10-year-old cars with software this good, or 130kW+ charging speeds! The combination of autopilot and free charging make this the best road trip EV, Tesla was so far ahead of other manufacturers back in 2015, it's a shame they've lost their way a bit...

This system has a full @openenergymon.bsky.social

We're on the verge of the heating season in North Wales, temperature is dropping to 11C, my newly installed Grant Aerona 290 heatpump has started trickling some heat in, impressive low modulation of 2.2kW (366W electrical) from this 9kW unit, COP of 5.7 at the moment 👍
September 8, 2025 at 9:07 AM
It's good to be back #Ceuse 😃
September 5, 2025 at 10:34 AM
It's impressive that the Grant 9kW R290 is able to modulate down to under 400W of electrical input and 2.5kW of heat output, @openenergymon.bsky.social monitoring data from my system is available publicly on HPM: heatpumpmonitor.org/system/view?...

The new FRV lock shield valves from Firepower are very useful to see exactly how much flow rate each radiator is getting, this makes the balancing process easy and precise 👍 www.firepowerheating.co.uk/frv

I've finally finished upgrading radiators and filling my space heating circuit, 10 rads and a towel rail have been upgraded, all piped TBOE to maximise output, existing rads were old single panel non convector and in poor condition, but I was able to re-use existing pipework 😃

One of my photos has made it onto the front cover of the new North Wales Rock climbing guidebook! 🥳

I've just got my dad bee hive temperature monitor back up and running, we've got 13 years of almost unbroken data on the @openenergymon.bsky.social Emoncms, it's fascinating how the temperature profile in the hive changes during the year 🐝 emoncms.org/beehive/live

Agree, buffers not required and should be avoided for most installations, I've fitted a 2-port volumiser on the CH return, this just adds system volume without hydronic separation or distortion, same physical tank, just piped differently

Next on the job list is to upgrade some radiators... 🥵

Thanks to my apprentice for his 'help' during the installation! 😅

The new Grant Smart touch controller is great, a big improvement over the old Arona controller, it's very intuitive to use, I really like this overview display

To put this into perspective the ASHP used 1.4kWh to deliver 6.3kWh of hot water, on today's
@octopus.energy Agile tariff this cost 19.6p for two days worth of showers and dish washing! Data from @openenergymon.bsky.social independent monitoring 😁 shop.openenergymonitor.com/level-3-heat...
