Animation test for one of the characters in the game @hawkstonegame.com. Walking sequence accounts for walking up, down, left, right, and diagonally up and down. More animation sequences to go, obviously. Jumping, swords, magic etc...

I needed to include some pixel concept art for my game where there's lakes & bridges, other types of plant life, stairs etc. Also wanted to get a feel for what it might look like where scenes pan for a player.

We have combat! It’s not perfect, some bugs to wrinkle out, there’s no reaction to being hit (other than vanishing when dead) but it’s coming along!

I’m going to put knowledge of this 2D pixel game development to good use when I do a real proper game

Next stage of my game tutorial learnings - Monsters programmed to give chase! This is before any combat system is implemented. When the player enters within a certain distance from this slime-goop thingy, it chases the player. Garghh C'MERE rargh.... lemme slime you

Learnt about object collisions with this top-down 2D style game example. It's my hope once I've learnt all this, I'll make my own fully fledged RPG video game (artwork here isn't my own, its from the tutorial, but ill learn pixel art too)

Managed to create the up, down, left, right animation from this godot game engine tutorial. It's for a very short top down rpg style game. Retro look. Neat huh?

I did it! (🔈 sound on to here the SFX) Followed the tutorial the whole day and I have a 2D platform game. Just goes to show it IS possible. The art and music isn’t mine, it was supplied by the tutorial but I can build on the concepts here and make something of my own!

Have a tilemap platform game scene going and the little knight is able to jump around. How cool is that. Theres no reason why I couldn’t make a full 2D platform game. Making great progress here!

Okay the game tutorial with Godot is complete! I kept dying in my game. In defense it's past 2am. Off to bed. Enjoy the final video complete with game music and death sounds!

Another update! Fun game tutorial using the Godot game engine. Now I've got BAD GUYS!!

It's basic sure, it's the tutorial's artwork, but I got the mechanics nailed. The most fundamental of most games - Collision detection and damage.

The more I go, the more I learn. Fun!

I did a thing! Been playing around with game development using the Godot gaming engine. Following a tutorial. Basic but it's helping me learn how to do this cool stuff. Maybe I'll build my own 2D video game with it!
