“As Noura Erakat points out, invoking Aimé Césaire’s formulation, these events might be understood as a “boomerang effect”: the violence and repression made permissible in the colonies manifests at home, breathing new life into authoritarian states and intensifying carceral institutions..”
Must read ✅⏬️
This is, frankly, an incredible piece that connects the carceral logic and violence of the border to the Israeli genocidal project in Gaza and beyond.

I am dead serious when I say anyone who is teaching in any of these areas needs to have this on the syllabus this year.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

—Now indefinite ICE detention in Louisiana;
—"Crime": not declaring some frog-embryo samples for research.

Read it.

100%! Please call your reps and ask them to support this bill. Reduce corruption in our govt!
No lawmaker in Congress should be able to own, buy, and sell individual stocks.

We need to ban congressional stock trading—and I've got a bill for that.

This is, in large part, pandemic revenge.

As far as these oligarchs are concerned, all science does is tell them stuff they cannot do.

They can't keep spewing carbon.

They can't keep businesses open as usual when millions are dying.

They have concluded that research is the enemy of profit.

WE NEED TO GET BIG MONEY OUT OF POLITICS RN. That's why this bill is big.

By capping contributions to Super PACs, @summerlee.bsky.social's bill would stop billionaires and corporations from flooding our elections with money.

That puts power directly back in the hands of everyday working people.
BREAKING: Rep. Summer Lee has introduced a bill that would ABOLISH super PAC spending nationwide, severely curtailing the undue influence billionaires and corporations exert on our elections.
