I haven't posted here in a long time. Since my last post, I successfully defended my dissertation and graduated. I'm unemployed now, but I'm treating myself to a solo trip to Japan in two weeks. Probably not the wisest financial move, but I don't care.

I'm reposting some of the things I made this past year that I'm proudest of. Here's an impassioned defense of Canada Geese.

Ten things I dig:
1. Physics
2. Sci-fi and fantasy books/movies/tv shows
3. Coffee
4. Breakfast
5. Rock/alternative/indie music
6. Song writing
7. Playing guitar
8. Big, walkable cities with good public transportation
9. Restaurants
10. Video games (binging Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield lately)

I spent the last week at my home institution attending meetings. Yesterday I led a session at a summit about using neutrino astronomy to encourage students to learn about science. I think it went pretty well and I had a nice time. Today I'm spending the day traveling. It's been exhausting

I don't have many followers, but I figured I'd do that little I can to boost this
So my survey got attacked by some bots, and now I've lost 50% of my data. Please help me get to 1,000 real humans who actually meet my survey criteria? This sad PhD candidate thanks you in advance.

Airplanes without electrical outlets are a plague upon humanity. I mean, I brought a book, but don't make me put down my phone to read. I want to watch Dr. Who!

After my last two original posts, one could mistake me for an insect guy. I'm not, but I enjoy taking photos of interesting plants and animals when I come across them. I'm also a particle physicist, and there's not much to photograph about my work unless you want a picture of my laptop.

It's always a good thing when experiments don't agree with the standard model. Maybe something new will come of all this.
Mismatch with Standard-Model Predictions Reaches 5 Sigma
The Muon g-2 Collaboration has doubled the precision of their 2021 measurement of the muon’s magnetic moment, strengthening a tension with predictions based on the standard model.

We have a death cult in this country. It's horrifying and should be a major scandal. Every candidate for federal elected office should be asked about this constantly.

Pedestrians Are Dying in Record Numbers. There’s Nothing “Accidental” About It.
Our roads are designed for death. Regulators are asleep at the wheel.
