There’s disempowerment in filling kids’ lives w/ stories in media whose vast production costs mean kids have nearly no chance of ever creating one in response. Consuming mainly screen media then trying to reply in prose leaves one floundering w/ unfamiliar tools. Reading empowers reciprocal creation

They're really quite good, and refreshingly unique.

Laurie J. Marks' Elemental Logic series is queernormative, but making/raising children is definitely a central thought. It has an interesting aspect though, where there are still ostracized sexual preferences?

Mmm ok, I can see that it messes with the stakes in an irritating way. You're in luck though, seeing as it's not canonical LOL.

OMG very fair!! Well, regardless, I'm due for a reread, as my roommate and I might do a mini book club. Also, the WHAT WE ARE SEEKING cover is gorgeous!! Really excited for that one.

I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the unreliable narration, the book is just so good in so many other ways! But very intriguing.

Hmm interesting. How do you see those words resonating with the Moby Dick section you quoted?

Has been a bit since my last read, what last words are you referring to here? I might be due for a reread, have heard a theory recently which reshaped my entire understanding of the ending...
