It was less than two years ago that Tristan Enaruna hit a jumper off one foot to send the Cleveland State Vikings to the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). Now, Enaruna is firmly set in the starting lineup for the G-League Cleveland Charge and has many people talking. Just like his college career, his professional career didn’t start in Cleveland, but he’s getting his footing in the same town where he dominated as a Viking for two years.

The Cleveland State Men’s Basketball team (1-2 going into the weekend) had a doozy of a weekend. Scoring almost 100 points versus another Northeast Ohio school (but losing) and storming back to beat a school Wright State demolished certainly was an interesting watch. The MTE (Multiple Team Event) at Colonial Hall at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV was anything but boring for the Vikings.

A Capital WIN for Cleveland State
As fans glanced at the scoreboard with under a minute to go, flashbacks of three years ago went through their heads. In Daniyal Robinson’s first game at the Wolstein Center, the Vikings lost 72-68 to (now defunct) Division II Notre Dame College. This time, in Rob Summers’ first game at home as head coach, the Vikings saw a very similar game unfolding.

With his mentor (current Missouri head coach and former CSU head coach) Dennis Gates in attendance, new CSU head coach Rob Summers gushed about being back in Cleveland. “I don't want to be a head coach. Everyone's like, well, you want to be a head coach and run your own program,” Summers said. “I'm like, okay, that's fun and that's great.

Five years after leaving the Northeast Conference and five years after the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled their appearance in March Madness, Robert Morris (26-8) is dancing again. This season, RMU swept the Horizon League in almost every category. They won the regular season title and the conference tournament. Alvaro Folgueiras won Player of the Year. Amarion Dickerson won Defensive Player of the Year.

Vikings lose out on conference title but finish regular season on high note
February for the Vikings ended with another thud, but they were able to start March off with a bang. In a week filled with massive leads, the Vikings lost a very tough game at Wright State before coming home and out-lasting Purdue-Fort Wayne. With these two results, the Vikings dropped to second in the Horizon League standings but still secured a bye and home game in the conference tournament.

CSU sneaks by Detroit Mercy before former Viking drops them to second place
Cleveland State is no longer in first place. After controlling the division for most of the season, a 1-1 week saw Robert Morris leapfrog the Vikings. With only two games left, CSU will now need to win both and see RMU lose their last game to capture the number one seed in the conference tournament. If the Vikings win out, they would tie for the regular season title.

This week saw Cleveland State's bid to tie a school-record in consecutive wins come to an end. But it also saw the Vikings get a statement victory over Milwaukee., featuring a career game for Tahj Staveskie. Greg Kula has the story. #HLMBB
Win streak ends for Vikings but revenge against Milwaukee is sweet
The streak has ended. With their game at Northern Kentucky going the Norse’s way, the Vikings needed to get a bounce-back win against Milwaukee after their 13-game winning streak was in the past. The Vikings showed that the streak wasn’t just a fluke by dominating the Panthers. Away game at Northern Kentucky (10-13, 5-7 Horizon League) The usual lineup of Tevin Smith, Tahj Staveskie, Ebrima Dibba, Dylan Arnett, and Reece Robinson took the floor to face a Northern Kentucky team that was demolished in Cleveland a few weeks ago.

After Maddy Skorupski and Macy Smith shredded Cleveland State's perimeter during Oakland's upset victory last month, the Vikings doubled down on their scout and managed to bottle up half of OU's dangerous duo in a revenge win on Saturday. Kyle Rossi has the story.
Vikings get it half right in revenge victory over Oakland
On January 3rd, Oakland upset Cleveland State 71-68 in Rochester, MI, an obvious low point of the Vikings’ season so far, and a game that placed CSU a clear third in the Horizon League pecking order, behind Purdue Fort Wayne and Green Bay. The Golden Grizzlies were led that evening, as they generally are, by Maddy Skorupski and Macy Smith, two of the conference’s top ten scorers.
