Eindhoven temporary signs. Again instead of trip-hazard sandwich boards with sandbags taking up valuable footway space, it just fits in-between the bricks. Relies on bricks being present so perhaps not as easy to reproduce in the UK as the German variety.

German alternative to sandwich boards and sandbags. Seems much more sensible with a smaller footprint where it matters to pedestrians and cyclists.

Even in the Netherlands where two tier racks are common, the preference is clearly for the bottom rack. (Also these only really work if you have a frame lock, there are no locking points on them.)

Took c. 1 hour *at a ticket office* to buy train tickets with a bike reservation yesterday. I'd given up on doing it online as most of the apps don't let you, and the others were saying "no reservations available" - I think because the trip involved a Northern leg, which doesn't do reservations.

It is 39°C in Lisbon today. The same in Madrid. In Paris next week it will also be 39°C.

Look at this picture. People are under trees, where it can be up to 12°C cooler.

Given trees take decades to mature and many don’t survive, cities need to plant many more street trees. And urgently.

Computers used to scream every time they connected to the Internet. They knew. They tried to warn us. We did not listen.

I keep getting ads telling me to use AI to answer my emails for me, and everything I know about the theory of induced traffic tells me that this ends with an exponential increase in pointless emails as robots chat away to each other and minimal actual productivity gains

Watching nearly every political party in the UK chase the same 20% of the worst people in the country, ignoring the other 80%, just to please the papers.

Nothing will change in the UK until the papers are taken in hand. Not all the media, just the papers. The rest will flow from there.

Apparently most rail trips are now for leisure purposes. So it's great that we still do engineering works on bank holiday weekends then....

Today is 80 years since the Nazis executed Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer who was imprisoned for his part in the plot to assassinate Hitler. His words have never been more relevant and we need his moral clarity and courage more than ever before.

15+ years old, but still VERY relevent — and if we had acted 15 years ago, the “better world” we’d be creating would be a LOT better & easier to reach. There are real consequences we’re just starting to see to not heeding this cartoon a lot sooner. Even worse if we don’t heed it now. #ClimateCrisis
