I was certainly never optimistic about a second Trump administration, but his rage against the people of the United States is so much more virulent and deranged than even I expected. He’s destroying everything. It’s nightmarish.

There's been a LOT going on, but the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case really deserves all of our attention. Some thoughts at CAMPAIGN TRAILS:

This is horrifying and should, in any reasonable world, lead to immediate impeachment. On a hot mic, before the media arrived, starting around 7:15 on the time index, Trump tells Bukele he is going to start sending "homegrown criminals" to El Salvadoran gulags. This is fascism.
Before press came in — but while live feed was running on Bukele’s feed — Trump said to him: “home-growns are next. … You’re gonna need to build about 5 more places.”

This is the statement of a person who, like Trump, is amoral and constitutionally devoid of empathy & impulse control. No surprise that his DOGE is recklessly dismantling vital federal services.

Musk is inept, inefficient & wasting taxpayer dollars.

Musk, by his own standards, must be fired.

This is what happens when voters elect an ignorant man who they imagine understands how the economy works—a failed businessman bent on pursuing failed, foolish ideas that trigger an unnecessary trade war.
The Liquor Control Board of Ontario is the single largest purchaser of alcohol in the world. The Premier of Ontario ordered them to stop purchasing American products.

No restaurant, no grocery store, no one anywhere in Ontario, can find American booze.

Hagan Scotten, who wrote this spectacular resignation letter, was an army ranger for 8 years, top of his law school class (Harvard) & a John Roberts law clerk. Not exactly a candidate for Trump’s liberal deep state.

I'm sorry, but "they took over the whole federal payments system, fired the career staff, and won't let anybody see what they're doing" is not a situation in which you wait for more information. It's a situation in which you assume the worst. There's no explanation for it other than rampant crimes.

if the president can say “i don’t like the department of energy,” and within a week it’s closed, then the constitution means nothing, and the president’s entire claim to power is the loyalty of the military. either he is constrained by the constitution or he’s a dictator, there isn’t a middle ground

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad.

There’s not.

If only we had a body, one with democratic legitimacy and powers conferred by a Constitution, that had the authority to overrule a president who seeks to impose arbitrary tariffs and deport people who fled here to escape oppression.

It could be called the Congress of the United States.
