I cannot tell you how many tech journalists at prominent media organizations do not understand this
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Trying the weird technicality of wording.

If i add a feature in a patch (which mod is basically same as patch but from a user not the creator) it is part of the game hence Prior Art. Doesn't matter who is original creator of that art - the developer or the user.

As GDC talk applications have opened, I want to politely remind you that GDC remains one of the most inaccessible, unfairly expensive, and dangerous for-profit game industry events out there - and that offering your labour for free to it just adds value that pressures people into going needlessly.

Well they did fire people year before so.
Update: CD Projekt has confirmed The Molasses Flood staff were offered the chance to remain with the company post-absorption.

"As part of this process, studio employees were offered the opportunity to transition into the new structure."

Update: The Molasses Flood has been absorbed into CD Projekt Red
The dev team will continue working on The Witcher multiplayer spin-off 'Project Sirius' within CDPR proper, but the studio itself has essentially been dissolved.

I hope everyone feels reinvigorated after visiting GDC & I hope for next year you make the fact that so many can't afford, can't safely go, or otherwise are blocked from the feelings & support you're now feeling a consideration in supporting one of the most exclusionary events in games next year.

Don't just listen to players. If given the option, they'll optimize the game out of their games, and the story out of their stories. It's our job to filter information and data and feedback into good work, and while we'll sometimes miss it's better than blindly following surveys.
I once worked on a visual novel game where all the surveys and focus groups said that nobody wanted romance, they only wanted mystery and sci-fi.

Then 75+% of clicks in-game went to stories with explicit romantic or sexy themes.

'These kids do not care about romance': Game devs want to know what today's teens want, and surveys say sex and romance isn't it
Young people want stories about friendship more than romance, say researchers and industry execs.

As usual Rami spits the truth. AAA is not sustainable because of games scope. Its unsustainable due to poor production practices which lead to inefficiency. Usually overhiring as a solution to any problem. After years working on a project, with crunch, people leave after release or get fired. Repeat
I was interviewed for the NYT article about graphics, and I will say that @jasonschreier.bsky.social is 100% on point in this "response" article. The over-focus on graphics isn't the problem - it's a symptom of mis-management. Mis-management of priorities, of resources, of people, of talent.
Why do video games cost so much to make these days? A recent NYT article pinned bloated budgets on the graphical arms race, but that's only a small part of the equation. The real problem? Rampant mismanagement.

This week's column is a spicy one: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

This is absolutely mad. Thousands of indie devs that are losing revenue for their games, right in the midst of the holiday season because a billion dollar corporation relies on an AI tool to do their brand protection.

I kid you not, @itch.io has been taken down by Funko of "Funko Pop" because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called Brand Shield that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain
