@sinyanju.bsky.social not to judge your moral value against age gap pedophillic ships but you using that character as your profile picture while being against fanart-depicted Gilrey... isn't McGillis canonically engaged to a nine years old Almiria? are you not against that kind of material?

Another thing about this scene. Rey being the one who shoots Gil is great. It's a perfect culmination of his arc. I love that. But he really doesn't accept Kira's vision of the future because instead of living for himself like Kira told him to, he chooses to die in an explosion. why??

Adding Athrun just highlights why the scene doesn't really work imo. Kira doesn't know any of these people. So Rey choosing Kira's future over Gil's rings hollow. Gilbert really isn't Kira's antagonist he's Athrun and Shinn's antagonist. Athrun being here is better but he still doesn't do anything

Durandal: We would appreciate Cagalli's battle expertise alongside us
Cagalli: *proceeds to spend the entire episode silent as Athrun gives battle tactics by all logic she should be the one to know*

Neutral: We have Rey za Burrel at home

This is a trope I always like but I don't feel like it has enough impact when executed in just two episodes. I wanted to see more of Nyaan and Kycilia interacting...

Also his VA is fucking incredible!! It's Toshihiko Seki, the same VA who played Rau, but he really shines as Rey imo. He's calm and collected and has a very soothing tone most of the time but occasionally that slips and he lets in some anger or sadness and it feels so raw and visceral

But when he hears Kira talking idealistically about how people can choose their own purpose in life, he beings to believe and his faith in the plan wavers, which is the ultimate proof that the idealistic path is possible. Even someone as set in his hopelessness as Rey is capable of believing

Like Rau, he's someone destined to live a sad, short, unfulfilled life. He feels like he is not allowed to have a purpose. So he clings to Gil's Destiny Plan as a way to prevent someone like himself from ever being born again.

REY ZA BURREL

The only new character that doesn't get abandoned at the end. He's likeable and surprisingly well-characterized through most of the story but his arc is like the one thing that carries its weight at the end. It's actually so good and made me go from liking him to loving him
