If you need reasons why USAID is important, here is a bunch from Samantha Power, USAID Admin.
Here's one more for your racist uncle. USAID keeps migrants out of the US. Their programs help people stay where they are so they don't need to look for food or work or security.

What I'm having trouble with is- Remember Elián González? I remember people saying "Oh we can't send him back to Cuba, to that dictatorship!" It's the same people, same members of my family, who are really ok with this dictatorship. Fans of it even. Gleefully giving up rights he supposedly needed.

Today, I am unreasonably happy to find out how St. Nick became Santa Claus. Saint Nickolas in Dutch is “Sint Nikolaas.” Then it became “Sinteklaas.” And now we have Santa. I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED! I hope this brings someone else joy today.

I keep coming across people I used to follow and haven’t seen in quite a while. It feels like a class reunion where I am catching up with friends. You know, instead of being awkward and wishing I was home.

You're not "late to the party" when you enjoy an old book for the first time. Books don't have an RSVP deadline. The party started long ago, and guests show up when they're meant to.

Ok, so that’s far enough that, if it traveled at the speed of light, 15 centuries would have passed before it got here.

And yet, it still feels too close.

I keep trying to use photos I took out in the wild as profile pictures. Every time I relearn the lesson camouflage works. It always just looks brown when it’s so small!

Everyone should have the time to read as much as they want. That's the kind of society I want to build 📚💙

I love physical books. I love trophy books, especially hard cover fancy prints of books that are particularly important to me.
But I have such a hard time reading them. I started using the Dyslexia font on my ereader and the number of books I read shot through the roof.
