Glad to say I was able maintain my longstanding New Year’s Eve tradition of going to sleep well before midnight. Which differentiates it from every other night, where I stay up past midnight.

I read this a few days ago, and it keeps making me chuckle.

I could get behind a Poronkusema Runnel. An annual 7.5km Christmas run/walk/whatever.
It’s the time of year for mentioning one of my favourite ‘untranslatables’.

‘Poronkusema’, in Finnish, once denoted a distance of around 7.5km, which is roughly how long a reindeer can last before needing to urinate. ‘Poronkusema’ means ‘reindeer pee’.

The “murder hornet” has been eradicated in the U.S. five years after it was found in Washington State, officials say. A massive mobilization has eliminated the invasive species from that hot spot and the nation, at least for now. nyti.ms/3By69PS

Earlier this year, I randomly stumbled into a showing of Birds in the Earth (2018 short) by Marja Helander.

It’s stayed with me, though much of the meaning must have gone over my head. I know so little about Sami sovereignty and land ownership issues. I’d love to see it again sometime. It was good

My pre-schooler suddenly jumped from wanting to read the likes of “Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site” to “all moomin books, in order”.

I’ve been elated. And yet… attempting to explain the goings on in Moominvalley has been trying at times.

You all deserve comfort. And I'm here with the recipe for the ultimate comfort cake...

Chocolate Chip Streusel Coffee Cake

Easy to make, the best coffee cake you'll ever eat; I've been making this for a very long time.

Light and fluffy cake, not too sweet, with a crunchy streusel topping.

I actually thought what I experienced as a decline in Honeycrisp flavor was just my own post-COVID symptom. I guess I'm in some sense ... relieved? https://www.seriouseats.com/how-honeycrisp-apples-went-from-marvel-to-mediocre-8753117

If you're a logistics nerd this is super interesting.

Also, tucked in the end of it is the point that Waffle House being open come Hell or high water is actually a form of marketing for a chain that otherwise doesn't do much marketing.

My preschooler recently surprised me by correctly using the term nocturnal while discussing animal habits during a walk in the woods.

I tried to repeat the experience in front of my partner by asking what you call something that stays up all night. My kid’s response: “tired and grumpy”

Trying to get home from Dallas to DC. Flight delayed for hours, finally canceled. Airline tried to rebook me on a flight to Denver(!), and then take a red eye to DC

Thanks to a Biden reg, I was able to get a refund and rebook on another airline

Trump promised airline CEOs he’ll get rid of the reg
Delta CEO says the Trump administration will reverse government 'overreach' seen under Biden
The chief executive of Delta Air Lines says the incoming Trump administration will be a “breath of fresh air” for airlines after what he called government “overreach” under President Joe Biden.
