by sheer chance I went to a multimedia store today and they had volume 2 (ep. 3 and 4) of Divergence Eve on original Japanese release VHS
almost bought it but a) there was no price tag and b) The French Connection on CED was actually for sale and is probably cooler

Stranger Things is now over. I thought season 5 was the worst yet, though still very watchable, because it's well-made even if the writing isn't great. In my opinion, they threw away four seasons' worth of worldbuilding and nuance for "kill the bad guy and have happy ending", which SUCKS

watching Divergence Eve because it's animated by Radix who animated Haibane Renmei (which was really good) and it's basically "xenosaga(ish) but with bonkers character design"
also they use Makefiles for all the high-speed scrolling code on computer screens and I don't think I've seen that before

watched a video of clips from that AI anime dub and, without defending the AI dub, it wasn't much worse than a bad Funimation dub. like, that is not the direction the industry should go, nor was it good work, but a little more parameter tweaking and I bet it could get good enough that I can't tell

aforementioned lexus was in fact a lemon. replaced it with a recent-model-year used hyundai elantra from a hyundai dealer which is actually a lot cooler, albeit more expensive, but I wanted a small car anyway and I like the elantra a lot.

crashed my car, genius that I am, and it's so old that it's not worth even scrapping. new car, less than 24 hours later, is a fairly heavily used (carmax-improved) lexus SUV that is actually even better than I expected.

Stop by HardOff after work. I thought this Sanyo PH-WCD800 boombox (missing speakers) was rather handsome, though apparently it's from 1987, when boring blackness was beginning to take over. I like its wide dual cassette doors & feature maximalism, such as an LED spectrum analyzer on the tape door!

finished Accelerator. it actually came together surprisingly well at the end, but for some reason they made a show featuring the guy named Accelerator rather than a show actually about him. my recommendation is thus: if you enjoyed Railgun and at least tolerated Index, check it out.

my friend got fantastic pictures of the aurora on Tuesday night, so I tried to go see it last night. barely visible, but definitely there. NOAA's forecasting the same level of radiation tonight so I probably won't go back, but it sucks that I missed the good one

finished Eden of the East (show + 2 sequel movies) earlier. it's not very good, don't watch it. I think it's trying to be a Cory Doctorow-esque modern thriller but it falls flat in pretty much every aspect

turns out there are visual novels that will show you Japanese and English text at the same time, and switch between them on the fly...this could actually get me to not only play games on PC but also to actually read a VN

Finished Last Exile 2 with my friend yesterday. I didn't really understand what happened because it's a much more politics-focused story, but I still liked it a lot. It's much more "anime" and much more 萌え than Last Exile 1, so it's neat to see similar concepts in different styles.
