Can we all agree that Tom Hanks' character in "You've Got Mail" has most likely become a republican that voted for Trump?

Scores of innocent civilians have been senselessly butchered in Syria's coastal region, and yet there are those who have the audacity to defend this barbarism.

A few months ago, I was one of those people that had the "wait-and-see" mindset regarding the change of government in Syria. Was I skeptical? Yes I was, but, after 15 years of turmoil and 50-something years of dictatorship, I was hopeful for a change.

And now, I am reminded of my naivety.

“The Democrats didn’t do enough on Gaza, so I withheld my vote to make a statement.”

“Well, Trump won and now he’s gonna destroy Gaza.”

“Yep. We’re paying the price for the Democrats’ incompetence.”

“‘We?’ The Gazans are paying the price, not us”

Pause.

“I needed to make a statement.”

Why did I get a LASIK eye surgery? Well, because I've seen the Mummy and I need to outrun Prince Imhotep in case he's following me and I don't want to be like the guy who drops his glasses and they get stepped on and broken only for Imhotep to take his eyes and tongue! Hell no, sir! I need those!

The time for niceties is very much gone. Honestly, the one that I'm very much looking forward to is a bunch of Trump voters being confused why their healthcare and groceries are more expensive, and why their messiah gives little to no shit about them. Leopards meeting faces kind of situation.

I am not even religious but this Bishop is a fucking hero. I don't know how many times in the future people will call out Trump and Vance for what will most certainly be a shitty presidency with many yes-men around them, but this lady did, to their faces, in a church no less.
Yup.
Hero!
Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde was nearing the end of her sermon for the inaugural prayer service on Tuesday when she took a breath and looked directly at President Trump.

“I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” said Bishop Budde. nyti.ms/4jtuyHA

Not that it matters, but did anyone notice that none of the talkshow hosts (except Jon Stewart) didn't even mention Elon's Nazi salute during their post inaugurated monologues? None. Are Americans so afraid of the billionaire class that they can't even be mocked or critiqued on comedy shows?

If it looks like a nazi, walks like a nazi, talks like a nazi, raises its hand like a nazi, it's probably Elon Musk.

"You lived in the era of Hafez Al-Assad and Bashar Al-Assad, what do you have to say?"

"F**k both of them".

Day 2 of New Syria: I am hearing mixed stories about the current events in Damascus and Tartus. Some, hopeful and beautiful, others, not so much. Families reuniting after years/decades of injustice and separation, or instances where hate and chaos led to violence and mistreatment of minorities.

A few Syrian observations: Obviously, the downfall of the Assad regime makes a historic turning point. But, where do we go from here?
My happiness for a change in political regimes in a land where I came from is always mixed with the fear of Islamic authoritarianism and worry about minorities.
