Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

I think of my family in the Middle East, and what could happen. It is a very scary thought, and I don't want to linger in it for long, because then it paralyzes me. It shuts me down.
This will not be the end of the atrocities. This, sadly, is just the beginning.

And no one will care.

This was never going to be a government for all Syrians. This is just a government for the majority. The rest, Druze, Alawites, Christians, Kurds, they're now prey to the viciousness of HTS. I want to say I'm surprised, but I'm not.

I think of my extended family in Syria.

And who knows what will happen in the next few days, months, years? The examples we have from other countries should serve as a blueprint to achieve unity and avoid new catastrophes surfacing with the power gap in Syria. Tolerance, patience, and commonality should pave the way, and not hate.

Obviously, in the 21st century media spectrum, it is sometimes a challenge to know what is real and current, and what is not. But what is real is the need to prioritise secularism, and enable the safe return for those who fled 14 years ago. The government transition needs to be collaborative.

In a world turning more bleak by every minute, I wish the Syrian story is one of hope, I wish for democracy, and for people to feel safer under this change, and that we don't see the eradication of what little women's and minority rights we have now.
But I've been disappointed before, so, let's see.

Syrian history in the last 70 years is mixed with great sectarian conflict, isolationism, and a sense of vengeance. I had conversations with Syrians whose main purpose is seeking revenge. Others want to enact true and meaningful change. I hope that as a country, we pursue the latter.

And yet, Truth Social exists for them, and suddenly that's not their echo chamber.
