Another photo from our hike last weekend. We skipped rocks on Walnut Creek. Rufus waded but was not allowed to swim.

I had an amazing time at Confluence (SF, fantasy, horror convention in Pittsburgh)! It felt great connecting with friends *in person*. I don’t do that often enough.

Stupidly, I didn’t take a single picture. :(
to make up for it, I’ll be posting links to books by the amazing people at the con.

Erie is a sanctuary city for refugees. And city officials assure us the local PD are not supporting ICE. Still, we’re all nervous.
Want to start an ICE watch program in your neighborhood? Here’s dome real advice. There is a handbook link in the article.

As I wake to the 81st day of the Fall of the American Empire, the question I contemplate:

Which version of "Hurt" is more appropriate as a soundtrack to the decline? The Johnny Cash cover, or the Nine Inch Nails original? 🤔

If *I* was in Bladerunner, I’d carry around an ancient book on how to butcher livestock and try to convince my friends to make lamb chops.
if i was in Blade Runner world i would be constantly trying to make my friends think they might be replicants

I’m rereading Anne Leckie’s Translation State. Initially because I want to examine more closely her treatment of consent, but there’s so many other topics she handles well - family v found fam, belonging, finding yourself… Highly recommend as a Stand alone.

You could probably climb my tbr pile to the moon, but ok, will add these.
I can confirm that these are excellent books, well worth the read.
Station break: time to pay the bills.

If you would like a science fiction narrative set in a hopeful far-future aftermath to tech bros and religious nuts taking off for space and leaving a blasted Earth behind to pick up the pieces, may I recommend my Jacob's Ladder and White Space books?
