Today, I made Zwiebelkuchen! For those who aren’t familiar, Zwiebelkuchen is a savory onion tart rich with caramelized onions, bacon, and cream. Traditionally, the delicacy signals the start of autumn in many German regions.

Tonight, the @phillies.com Otto Kemp, achieved a historic milestone: he has hit the most home runs (6) of any member of the Phillies named Otto!
I quite like the name Otto since it’s spelled the same forwards and backwards and is a historic Germanic name.

I belong to the Cannstatter Volksfest Verein in Philadelphia who celebrated its 153rd annual Volksfest this past weekend. The centerpiece of the fest is our Fruchtsäule (fruit column) which I constructed with a team of dedicated volunteers. #germanheritage #volksfest #cannstattervolksfest #cannstatt

It’s fascinating how the nations currently pressuring Iran mostly all hold nuclear weapons or are allied w/ nuclear-holding nations. Nukes are bad. Why doesn’t everyone ditch them?

This map inspired me to finally visit some of the former German states in what is Poland today. Breslau, Stettin, Danzig, Olsztyn and Posen…here I come!

Sundays are for Zwiebelrostbraten! I didnt feel like making Spätzle, but fried potatoes (Bratkartoffeln) is a good side, too. Want a guaranteed tender piece of meat? Marinate your NY strip steak overnight in a splash of oil and vinegar. You’ll thank me later for the tip! 😉
