This was yesterday during the day. Definitely not a day to go up the Fernsehturm for the view!

Today, I made Zwiebelkuchen! For those who aren’t familiar, Zwiebelkuchen is a savory onion tart rich with caramelized onions, bacon, and cream. Traditionally, the delicacy signals the start of autumn in many German regions.

I paid a visit in July just to see the place where the large monument stood.

Tonight, the @phillies.com Otto Kemp, achieved a historic milestone: he has hit the most home runs (6) of any member of the Phillies named Otto!

I quite like the name Otto since it’s spelled the same forwards and backwards and is a historic Germanic name.

Ende des Berichts.

I belong to the Cannstatter Volksfest Verein in Philadelphia who celebrated its 153rd annual Volksfest this past weekend. The centerpiece of the fest is our Fruchtsäule (fruit column) which I constructed with a team of dedicated volunteers. #germanheritage #volksfest #cannstattervolksfest #cannstatt

Before Berlin reclaimed the title of Capital, there was Bonn. Many know it as the birthplace of Beethoven…few recall that Bonn was Capital of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949-‘99. The blend of architecture, postwar politics, & musical legacy gives it a unique vibe. (All photos my own)

GERMANY’S OLDEST CITY

Nestled in the Moselle Valley, Trier was once a capital of the Roman Empire & boasts Roman ruins including the Porta Nigra, imperial baths, & a stunning amphitheater. It’s also the birthplace of Karl Marx, home to cozy wine taverns, & the some of Germany’s scenic vineyards.

Who doesn’t love potato pancakes every once in a while? They’re enjoyed by so many cultures around the world. Today I had the itch to make some.
