I’m super excited to finally put my recent work with @behrenstimb.bsky.social on bioRxiv, where we develop a new mechanistic theory of how PFC structures adaptive behaviour using attractor dynamics in space and time!

I often get asked “do you think visuomotor mismatch responses are a mouse thing?” – it looks like at least humans have them as well. very excited by this!
A new preprint from our lab with @zelechowski.bsky.social & @georgkeller.bsky.social !

Using wireless EEG + VR, we recorded visuomotor mismatch responses in freely moving humans.

Huge thanks to all participants, Keller Lab members and FMI facilities!

Defending science in public we often talk about 'peer reviewed science'. But could this framing contribute to undermining trust in science and holding us back from improving the scientific process? Instead, let's talk about the work that has received the most thorough and transparent scrutiny? 🧪

We’re pushing for a system that’s fairer for researchers, helping them get recognition for what, not where they publish.

Consistent with the work of @jeremiahycohen.bsky.social and @mishaahrens.bsky.social labs, we find that serotonin axons in mouse visual cortex appear to signal recent visuomotor uncertainty (and unlike norepinephrine axons, they have no visuomotor mismatch responses) www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Activity in serotonergic axons in visuomotor areas of cortex is modulated by the recent history of visuomotor coupling
Visuomotor experience is necessary for the development of normal function of visual cortex (Attinger et al., 2017) and likely establishes a balance between movement-related predictions and sensory sig...

Although we don’t want this fight now, if we have to have it we will. We have all the funders/unis/institutes on our side. Elife papers will be treated just the same as before. And maybe we can collectively put a dent in Clarivate’s business model.
We don’t think the impact factor is a good thing. But this is not the fight we want right now. We are trying something amazing and it’s working. We don’t want authors or other journals to fear trying it. Clarivate know they have this control and are using it to squash innovation. It is bullying.
I have been trying to figure out whether eLife's position is that they approve or disapprove of the Clarivate decision to no longer give them an impact factor.

This makes it seem like they disapprove of it, although it doesn't exactly say that.

Early days, but it looks like our authors don't think we need an impact factor either! Submissions are strong in numbers and high quality since the Clarivate/WoS announcement. We should not let a multibillion dollar company dictate how science is evaluated!
