This week in #glutenfree baking: pumpkin bread!

I learned from last time and measured out my (doubled) dough so my two loaves would be consistent (and evenly baked 🙃) this time.

First loaf is delicious and the second one is in the oven now. Next step is buying a second loaf pan

Just here to brag about myself: I fixed my washer! It wasn’t draining so I opened up the filter and cleaned it out. Now it’s draining! 🥹🤩

Had this happen a few month ago and I paid someone (a lot) to do the same thing. So hooray for me

And chickpea salad!

Was a bit skeptical of all the mint in it but wow, super tasty.

Time for my favorite day of the week: Market day!

Today we’re doing a winter squash chowder and a Mediterranean chickpea salad. (Not really meant to go together, I just like to have an easy-to-eat high-protein thing)

Eternally grateful that I have a year-round farmers market I can go to.

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

Been working on this gift cardigan and I guess I haven’t shared any of it?

Color was specifically requested as “navy” which ended up being pretty limiting, but the yarn I found is just stunning.

Pattern: Eva Cardigan by Petite Knit
Yarn: La Bien Amiee

The dopamine hits from creating a piece of clothing from sticks and strings is just amazing.

Left one still needs a thumb and to be blocked, but I’m just so pleased and proud of these (my first) mittens.

Pattern: Songbird Mittens
Yarn: Jamieson’s and Amith

Do people listen to this man speak and think he is making sense? Like, genuinely?

This is just an incoherent ramble

I consider myself to be a pretty introverted person…..but I LOVE fleeting conversations with kind people.

Just had a nice little chat with the guy (Nestor) who waters the office plants. Never met him before today but we had a lovely little chat about the holidays.

That’s all. Makes me smile.

Going on 3 months after finding out I’m celiac and my first gluten-free holiday season is tough. So many tasty foods I was enjoying just last year.

Tbh tho, I’ve seen so many health benefits after cutting gluten that these little annoyances are worth it.

Watched The Princess Bride tonight 😔

RIP Rob Reiner, man.

This was one of a handful of VHS tapes my dad had at his house when I was a kid. Many good memories watching The Princess Bride

Met at friend at the Portrait Gallery today and took her on a tour of my favorite pieces.

I loved this Nam June Paik piece when I studied it in undergrad but seeing it in person is a whole different experience

Working on my first pair of mittens and loving it! Pattern is #SongbirdMittens and yarn is Jamieson and Smith.

Tension is a bit crazy at the cuff but it fits and I didn’t feel like frogging. So the left mitten will just look nicer.

The mass deportation of undocumented people was one of Hitler’s largest coercive policies before the war. This set off a chain of events which can give us a useful perspective on where we are now.

PBS made a really good documentary about birthright citizenship and why it was originally started. I checked out from the library but can watch it online below.

(spoiler alert: white people were also all immigrants or children of immigrants……..)

I finished that one side of the back of my very worn denim shorts! Pic of the inside to follow. 🧵

(Don’t mind the creases. I don’t believe in ironing. 🤣)

Final paper is written and edited, now to be extra and turn in a designed report.

Cause why not? I have the skills and the time (plus the prof said he’d give extra credit)

After a few months of sitting in timeout she’s going to be finished today!!!!!

I was correct in my week to finish the sleeve….just inaccurate on when that week would happen.

(Still have to deal with most of the ends…but I’ll get there)
