Linguists know “like” is 1 of the most useful words in modern English.
Like is used for filler, holding time so speaker can think.
Like also has a unique “quotative” function, which eases the duty to quote another person 100% accurately.
Like is mocked in large part b/c young people innovated it.

Most white people simply cannot grasp that AAVE is a separate language, not “broken” English.
