Moi aussi. It is my favourite Canadian city. It has a buzz to it that makes it a joy to be in.

And this was as a skilled migrant who already speaks the language moving to NZ willingly. Much harder in pretty much any other circumstances.

Having moved from the UK to NZ and gone through the rigmarole of work visa, variations, residency, etc, I am very much aware of how stressful it is while your status is unassured.

Can I stay here? What if I lose my job? Can I travel? It dominates every decision.

Moving the goalposts is just shit.

The scenes with little steam engines looks very reminiscent of that great Welsh railway series, Ivor the Engine.

And how about reopening the Leamside Line to Washington and Durham? Plenty of NE rail routes ripe for reopening.

Basically, people don't like paying for stuff that was once free.

Schrödingers congestion charge: simultaneously not reducing private car traffic AND declining all traffic which apparently spends money in the City Centre.

But also, like actual facts that we've got so far (e.g. Telraams) do show a decline.

I'm reminded of when mobile phone data showed visitors to oxford city centre increasing, and some councillors were like "yeah but that's just data, instead we should focus on this one business owner who says not"
