We need to phase out the use of fossil fuels now, and spend the next couple of decades researching and developing (but not deploying) climate interventions like CO₂ removal.
Priorities for CO₂ removal (CDR) for the next couple of decades: "…we need to research how much CDR is possible given geophysical, environmental, technological, economic, social/cultural, and regulatory constraints and which methods require the least amount of energy, water, land, and resources."
