Okay, so I hate to agree with Trump or Mike Lee on anything, but a stopped clock is right twice a day and all.

🔸Can we STOP IT with the megabills? 🔸

1. No one can read them-voters or congress
2. It's total BS to sneak something in with a must-pass bill when it would never pass otherwise.

Hey look, Democratic and Republican Senators sitting and talking politely.

Even if you're not subscribed to CNN, I'd count that as worth a month's subscription: they can use the reinforcement that this is good, and we can use to hear the example conversation.

Just a reminder, health ins is an issue that excludes the poorest people (already uninsured, subsidies or no), so hammering on health ins affordability (worst case bankruptcy) at the price of SNAP (worst case no food) WAS kinda tone deaf.

Also, can we just have a whole new slate of candidates in the #senate and the #house ?

90% retire, keep a smidge of institutional knowledge with youngest staying?

Incumbents got us where we are; why would they be able to get us out?

Faith in humanity moment.

Interesting thing though-if I'm understanding my bilingual-in-"Republican" friends right, this is actually almost a shaky newborn version of what conservatives think a "safety net" should be: local community (and specifically church) driven.

Something odd/ironic that occurred to me today.

Living in UT, "we're a republic not a democracy" is a CONSTANT refrain.

But right now it's literally used to justify mob rule: a weakness of *pure democracies* that's supposedly part of the reason the US *was* set up as a constitutional republic.

Yay, nice to see a conservative/never-Trumper on here. You can prob tell from my posts I'm not conservative, but I figure democracy needs at least two healthy parties-so I'm always glad to see signs of potential hope.

It may take two to tango, but good grief the sheer stupidity of enacting policies when this is a predictable outcome 🙄

Of course internal devils advocate says "so what's the solution, given the presence of undocumented immigrants is clearly unacceptable to many?"
And...idk.

Seriously, people?

SERIOUSLY?

Not okay.

No matter what you think about Erika Kirk, taking cheap shots at widows just reflects badly on us all.

We have SO much material to legitimately mock right now: why descend to this level?

Also any pop-up food banks trying to help federal workers during the shutdown.

I've heard many can't access normal food banks because they technically have too high an income, never mind the missed paychecks.
If you are wondering how to help people in your community, financial donations to food banks are incredibly important right now.

The USDA has instructed states to deny SNAP nutrition benefits.

As we have said repeatedly at Defend Public Health, MAHA is a joke when kids in the U.S. are hungry.

For reference, this is the kind of messaging that makes people go "why on earth would liberals be opposed to this?!?"

If that's all you heard (and you didn't question how the numbers added up), objecting WOULD sound pretty crazy 🤷

Can't wait for the final #NoKings numbers to come in, but even for fairly prelim this is fantastic!

2% of the pop for those who are counting.

Just remember that 3.5% stat isn't just a one-time event: change comes from sustained action. I think it would behoove us all to hit the books on this.
BREAKING: Our crowd count estimate from the No Kings coalition responsible for planning today’s event is 7 MILLION nationwide.

7 MILLION of you gathered across the country to peacefully protest today.

2 million more than the first No Kings action in June.
It's official. Nearly 7 million people. Today is the single largest day of protest in American history. Americans from all corners of the country are standing up and saying #NoKings. This is what peaceful, patriotic protest looks like.

Positive #NoKings in SLC: I think it was the vibe we needed to heal after the shooting at the protest in June.

The crowds were particularly impressive given all the misinformation (it wasn't the same people as in June) about this protest!

Regardless of literally everything else, Trump has managed something good with this peace deal. Not perfect, but a start and an improvement on the status quo.

It behooves us on the left to acknowledge that, both ethically and strategically as a counter to discrediting accusations of TDS.
