Rethinking disaster risk reduction
Today is the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction has recently published the Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction 2025, which estimates that the true cost of disasters is nearly $2.3 trillion. This year’s call is to “Fund Resilience, Not Disasters” as part of the international day, with the UNDRR arguing for a “decisive shift” towards funding resilience now to avoid paying for disasters later.

I can echo how difficult a task this was and how seriously it was taken! A privilege (even when difficult) to be part of the process and get an insight into the amazing breadth and depth or work and thinking being done under the banner of Political Ecology.
That was one of the hardest tasks I've done for any POLLEN meeting.

#POLLEN26 had 227 panels submitted. Normally there is space for about 120 *including* double panels. Whereas our 227 were all single ideas that could become doubles.

And all were amazing. What do you do?

A #POLLEN26 Update:

We have 227 panels submitted.

227!! That is an incredible response. We will not have space for them all. But we will try our best. Now the 17 members of the scientific committee will set about selecting and sorting.

A huge thanks to all who sent proposals in.
