The Government has unveiled two new bills to replace the RMA. Ministers are talking about decks and front doors - but the RMA is what protects land, air, water and wildlife from mining, dams and industrial farming. These reforms weaken environmental protections.🧵

Surprised to see @nzfirst.bsky.social back for more of David Seymour’s dead rats seeing as they only just finished choking down the last one (the RSB). The new RM bills are likely to force NZ'ers to pay foreign companies just to stop them trashing the country. www.greenpeace.org/aotearoa/pre...

What if polluters could demand a payout – just for being told to stop polluting?

That’s exactly what the Govt is considering putting into the new RMA replacement laws. A fringe idea called “regulatory takings” which is really just a polluters get paid plan.

Let's call Luxon's little gas letter what it was. A textbook political stunt that leaders use when they don’t have a credible plan: the “blame the last lot” routine. This Govt is trying to distract from its own track record which has made the energy crisis worse.

1/ The latest from Luxon’s War on Nature is a proposal to make it easier for mining corporations to bulldoze NZ's most fragile and precious ecosystems. And the mining industry didn’t just get a seat at the table - they basically got given the pen to re-write the mining rulebook.
