#GBD gender-based disinformation exploits societal norms to harm #women 🚺

In countries like Pakistan, #deepfakes suggesting improper interactions with men can ruin women’s reputations and pose real safety threats ⚠️

Understanding context is crucial to fight #disinformation 🗺️
Deepfakes weaponised to target Pakistan's women leaders
Pakistani politician Azma Bukhari is haunted by a counterfeit image of herself -- a sexualised deepfake video published to discredit her role as one of the nation's few female leaders.

The conservative women’s magazine Evie has released their new cover featuring Ballerina Farm.

Evie has peddled health conspiracy theories & disinfo, patriarchal relationships, and anti-LGBTQ views under an aesthetic guise.

It’s time to stop saying that tradwives aren’t political.

After the massive demonstration in Utrecht was suddenly canceled, we did our part in Groningen this afternoon. We say a solid and loud NO to the budget cuts in higher education in the Netherlands.
🛑 the cutbacks on research and higher education. Powerful full page ad in national papers and online, signed by 511 members 🙋 of the (young) Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences.

False allegations about electoral fraud have been widespread in the past years. In this study with US and Brazilian populations, we investigated the effectiveness of credible sources and pre-bunking in the so-called ‘voter fraud’ context. Check the primary findings:

Looking very much forward to read the entire book. Among the findings: “Women tend to consume less news in part due to their heavy caretaking responsibilities and persistent divisions of labor in the home that often afford men more time to keep up with news (at least in heterosexual relationships)”
In an excerpt from their new book, AVOIDING THE NEWS, @benjamintoff.bsky.social, Ruth Palmer, & Rasmus Kleis Nielsen describe news avoidance as a product of individuals’ identities and how it contributes to inequalities on a macrolevel. bit.ly/3T5exwn @niemanlab.org @reutersinstitute.bsky.social
