According to the EPA, between 2018-2023 Honda fell to the middle of the pack in US fleet fuel economy. Back of napkin calculations have Honda rebounded to about 32.2 mpg in 2024. The big winner will be Toyota though as they should be around 32.5 mpg. (EPA won’t publish 2024 numbers until fall)

If you've been following recent news from CES, the 2003 Honda Kiwami concept car ought to look more than a little familiar.

Honda seemingly has tapped into the market of people who are interested in purchasing an EV, but don’t know where to start with charging. If 80% of purchasers are new to EVs, offering a level 2 home charger has to be a decisive incentive.
The best-selling General Motors EV of 2024 wasn't a Chevy, a Cadillac or a GMC.

It was a Honda. The Prologue EV turned out to be the surprise hit of the year, often for first-time electric buyers.

The Honda Prologue Was The Surprise EV Hit Of 2024
Oh, and the Prologue was also the best-selling General Motors electric vehicle, too.

Interesting trend reversal in carbon monoxide deaths. Curious if efforts to lower particulates have made consumers less cautious of the dangers of carbon monoxide. Electrification can’t get here fast enough.

I find it interesting that industry is trying to reduce fluoride content from lithium ion battery chemistries. Fluoride-ion has the potential to increase energy density by 8-10x - whereas fluoride doping will likely only increase density by 2 fold. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

The heat shield rusted clear through at a couple attach points on my 21 year old Accord. I sheared off a bolt head in an effort to pull and patch the heat shield. So I left it on, drilled a hole in the bottom of a beer can and used it as an over sized washer. Should hold me until spring.

EVs rule the efficiency game. They use ~77% of energy for motion, vs gas cars wasting 85%. 🌍💡 Example: Kona EV costs ~$436/year to charge, gas Kona? $1,415. Each $ on EV energy gets you 3.2x the range. Plus, less maintenance & more fun! #EVs #Efficiency

Home brewed a chipotle porter. I have been aging this batch since March. Aging it mellows the acidity of the peppers. I also subbed in molasses for a priming sugar. Helps to layer the caramel notes. This one checked in at 8.2% abv. The bite of the chilies 🌶️ is more noticeable than the alcohol bite

Really important topic here. I understand why EV marketing pretty much only focuses on range: range and refuel time are the places where EVs fall short of internal combustion. But from a strategic perspective, this is a weird battle to fight. Why focus on this weakness and not EVs unique strengths?
Which metrics do carmakers use to market their EVs?

My conclusion, in Fast Company:

“Rather than auguring a future of useful and efficient EVs, automakers are emphasizing metrics that portend disappointed customers, wasted resources, & needless road deaths.”

Forget about EV range—and focus on this instead
Car companies love boasting about range and acceleration. That’s a problem.
