I’m curious how it felt to live in the early 1930’s. Have started searching for some books that tell the stories first hand. Plan to share here some snippets that jump out at me as I read. First up: Die Moorsoldaten (Pear bog soldiers). The first known account of a concentration camp. #history
Is it just me or does the new MS NOW logo look an Austrian TV channel? #msnow #orf

This one is a novel, published in 1933 by an English woman who had spent a lot of time in small town Germany in the early thirties. A review at the time said „it’s a blessing to read a novel which deals … with the poignant predicament of our time“

Made ramen from scratch yesterday. Spent the day chopping and stewing. Individual ingredients tasted flavourful but harmless. The combination was hellfire! (But so delicious) #vegan #whatveganseat #ramen

Does anyone know whether this big ambitious project to modernise the SSA codebase has been accomplished?
The plan to migrate to a more modern infrastructure in itself is very likely the right thing to do. The problem is the approach.
wired.com WIRED @wired.com · Mar 28
BREAKING: DOGE is starting to put together a team to migrate the SSA's computer systems entirely off one of its oldest programming languages in a matter of months, potentially putting the integrity of the system—and the benefits on which tens of millions of Americans rely—at risk.

Funky things while travelling: Just saw a totally random border control check in the train. Two officers took care of checking the one black passenger. I took out my passport and they didn’t even look at me. Nor at the obviously ticketless travelling (white) dude.

Funky things while travelling. The person who forgot to shower for the last week or so. Travel is stressful. I get it. But please be mindful of the other people on that plane. ✈️

It’s November and I slept with the window open. The real kicker was the mosquito waking me up at 2am. We’re having a “November-Summer” in Europe. THATs a thing now. #climatechangeisreal

Funky things while travelling: The person who comes into your row, plunks down on the aisle seat and proceeds to fill the middle seat with junk before realising shes not in business class and has to gather all her stuff to allow someone to sit in the middle.

Today I taste-tested two batches of homemade quince jelly vs one sample of store-bought. They are not even remotely in the same category. Homemade yum. #vegan #homemade

I’m currently reading (auto)biographical accounts of Europe in the 1930’s and 1940’s. It strikes me that every one at some point relates how friends and family members encouraged later survivors to leave and how they stayed because
a) don’t want to leave family behind
b) it won’t happen here

hot take: if your HR team is still manually writing job descriptions in 2025, you’re basically hand-washing clothes when washing machines exist 🧺
GenAI means your HR department can finally stop cosplaying as excel sheets with feelings. Delegate the boring bits to the robots already

These two posts next to each other on my feed describe the fundamental issue with so much of the world: cherish your pet while torturing an equal being. As long as we can tolerate that brainsplitting fact I don’t think we can evolve into a peaceful world.

Attending a webinar on generative AI. One of the speakers‘ accent makes it sound like „degenerative AI“ and got me thinking about how this might truly be degenerative to us humans and our natural intelligence.

This article explains a lot imho. It has been extremely puzzling to me to see how quickly Silicon Valley had abandoned their principles. This might be the reason.

Super delicious #vegan dinner at Ellis in Mechelen, BE. I think they call their cauliflower bites “Flowerwings” not sure anymore. The whole meal appetizer, veggie burger and fries was only €20. Totally worth it. Burger patty of red beets, lentils and loads of fresh herbs. Yum.

I just signed this petition. I watch in horror as other countries destroy our planet. We can’t let politics undermine what we have in Europe.
🚨 The EU is trying to quietly weaken nature laws during summer break. We have 10 days to stop this.
Don't let them destroy our forests, rivers & wildlife in silence. #HandsOffNature www.wwf.eu/campaigns/it...

My very Japan enthusiastic teenager decided to make matcha as authentically as possible. We then also added some to our Sunday morning crumpets. Oishi!
